Shinsho Gokurakuji Temple
Shinsho Gokurakuji Temple is a temple of the Tendai sect of Buddhism located in the hills south of Mount Yoshida, north of Okazaki, and is known as Shinnyodo. In the spacious precincts of the temple, there are many halls, including the imposing main hall built in 1717 and the three-storied pagoda that shines against the blue sky. The carefully designed dry landscape garden and the seasonal plants and trees that decorate the temple grounds are the highlights of the temple.
Philosopher's Walk Area
The Philosopher's Walk is a scenic stroll along the Lake Biwa Canal, which runs along the foot of Higashiyama. The path is lined with famous temples such as Ginkakuji Temple to the north and Eikando and Nanzenji to the south. During the cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons, many people come and go along the path, admiring the beautifully colored scenery. There are also many cafes and Japanese sweets shops in the area, where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll while stopping by.
