Giethoorn
The village of Giethoorn, nestled in a corner of fertile marshland in the northern part of the Netherlands, is known as the "Venice of the Netherlands" because of the beauty of its canals. The village is not accessible to cars, and transportation is by boat. The idyllic village, with its trees and lawns beside the canals and old-fashioned thatched farmhouses, is not only a place of admiration for the Dutch, but has become a world-famous landmark. You can join a tour or rent a boat to take a leisurely ride through the canals and immerse yourself in a fairy tale world of tranquility and beauty.
De Weerribben-Wieden National Park
De Weerribben-Wieden National Park consists of the largest bog in northwestern Europe, a land that has been inhabited for centuries as a peat-producing region. Lakes, canals, reed colonies, forests and other rich natural features are home to many creatures such as water birds, fish and otters. The vast park can be explored by boat or canoe. One of the most popular excursions is a boat ride to the beautiful nearby towns of Giethoorn and Blokzijl.
