Vienna, Austria
Belvedere
The Belvedere, located southeast of Vienna's Old City, was built in 1723 by Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt, one of the leading architects of the time, as a summer residence for Prince Eugene, a nobleman in the service of the Habsburgs. The majestic Baroque palace remained after the fall of the Habsburg Empire and is now a museum that houses the works of famous Austrian painters.
Belvedere Area
The Belvedere was built in 1723 to the south of the old town of Vienna as a summer residence of Austrian general Prince Eugene. The magnificent baroque pavilion is now a museum known for its Gustav Klimt collection. The surrounding area is home to embassies, universities, unique restaurants and stores, and with the opening of the Vienna Central Station in 2014, it is becoming an increasingly busy international train destination.
