Hateruma Island, Japan
Takanazaki
At Takanazaki, located in the southeast of Hateruma Island, there is a 1km-long stretch of sea cliffs formed by the erosion of Ryukyu limestone by waves. If you stand on the rugged rocks, you can see the waves from the ocean crashing against the cliffs and splashing powerfully. The rugged cliffs, in direct contrast to the quiet Nishi Beach on the other side of the island, are also known as the southernmost cape in Japan.
Hateruma Island
Hateruma Island is the southernmost inhabited island in Japan. It is famous for its beautiful "Hateruma Blue" sea and for its star gazing under favorable conditions with little artificial lighting. As you move around the island without traffic lights, you may encounter goats grazing in the fields. This is a fascinating island where you can experience a very slow life.
