Hosenin Temple

Hosenin was built at the end of the Heian period (794-1185) as one of the monasteries of Shorin-in, a Tendai sect temple also located in Ohara, and has three gardens, one of which is called Bankan-en, which means "hard to leave" in Japanese, and offers an atmospheric view of Ohara's bamboo grove and satoyama beyond the autumn leaves. The garden is also known as the "Picture Frame Garden" because the space between the pillars resembles a picture frame.

Ohara

Ohara is a satoyama (which means woodland close to the living area) in Kyoto, rich in nature. You can enjoy visiting the Tendai sect temples that stand quietly at the foot of Mount Hiei, or take a leisurely stroll through the peaceful landscape of mountains and rice fields. There are also many restaurants where you can enjoy local specialties such as shibazuke and fresh local ingredients.
