Opened in a tranquil part of the city in March of 2018, the Hotel INTERGATE KYOTO SHIJO SHINMACHI offers both value and experiences that embody changing the future with the richness of the local area. Through modern Japanese-styled interiors that mix traditional Kyoto-style houses (kyomachiya) with western stylings, the hotel’s spaces bring about a feeling of positivity and comfort where you feel as if you are relaxing in your own home, all while being immersed in the historic cityscape. At the hotel, guests can experience events and workshops on local culture, and see some of the 74 traditional crafts as designated by the city of Kyoto made by traditional craftspeople and artisans. Once a month in the hotel’s INTERGATE LOUNGE, guests can experience the world of the maiko at the “Study the Traditional Crafts of Kyoto with Maiko-han” event. Participants witness a traditional dance in dreamy candlelight from Japanese-style candles made with one of the traditional methods passed down over generations, as well as learn about traditional dress and more.
