In the year 2060, in an age where cars, people and robots fly through the air using Gravitor technology, space travel has become the norm. Representing a new era for Japan as a part of the Three New Cities Plan, Shin Kyoto was established on Kyoto's northern coast. Shin Kyoto has gained prominence as part of the Visa Free Cities (VFC), allowing visa-free travel among VFCs and the cities on the Moon. VFCs began with Lunar City 1 (LC1), established on a foundation of promoting development of new technology, restoring the environment and creating a Borderless Earth. Each VFC is not just building a spacefaring civilization, but also strives to coexist with and find a balance between nature on Earth and their existing civilization and culture. With that core ideal in mind, Shin Kyoto has become a cutting-edge city built on ancient principles of urban design and Feng Shui, with a five-story pagoda on the eastern mountains atop which the Azure Dragon is perched. The white twin towers to the east of Shin Kyoto are a hotel owned by the Bona Group, which connects with the convention center. Daily flights operate out of the Atmoph Tower Port, allowing the public to fly to other VFCs or LC1 without the need for going to a Space Port. The city has all the latest and greatest in shops and restaurants - the current craze among the populace is MUNE, a coffee shop that roasts their own beans.
