Mount Sherkala
Mount Sherkala is a highlight of tours exploring the vast landscapes of the Ustyurt Plateau. Rising suddenly from the barren plains, this striking mountain reaches an elevation of 332 meters. Its complex shape changes dramatically depending on the viewing angle and time of day. In medieval times, it is said to have served as a landmark for caravans along the Silk Road, and the ruins of a caravanserai can still be found nearby.
Ustyurt Plateau
The Ustyurt Plateau stretches across Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It is a desert area of approximately 200,000 square kilometers, with cliffs more than 150 meters high on its periphery. The uplift of geological strata accumulated at the bottom of the sea in prehistoric times and weathering has created a variety of landforms. Camping tours are popular to visit miraculous and spectacular landscapes such as canyons that seem to cut through the earth and pure white rock peaks.
