Peak of Mt. Fuji
Mt. Fuji has a large crater with a diameter of about 780 meters and a depth of about 200 meters. The crater has been an object of worship since ancient times, as seen in the "Ohachi-meguri" pilgrimage, in which the eight peaks surrounding the crater are likened to Buddhas. Even today, the entire summit is the precinct of a Shinto shrine, and the custom of worshipping the sunrise (goraiko) has been handed down from generation to generation.
