Bonotsu

Facing the East China Sea, the city of Bonotsu stands on a rugged coastline. It has prospered as a base for maritime traffic and trade since ancient times, including the landing of the famous Ganjin Wajou. After the isolation of the country during the Edo period (1603-1867), its function as a port town declined, but even after the Meiji period (1868-1912), the scenic beauty of the rias coastline continues to attract people, with many great writers visiting and movies being filmed here.

Ibusuki, Nansatsu

Nansatsu, located at the southern tip of the Satsuma Peninsula, is blessed with a mild climate and an abundance of nature in the mountains and the sea. The area is full of sights to see, such as the beautiful cone-shaped Mt. Kaimon and Ibusuki famous for unique sand steam baths, the scenic rias coastline, and samurai residences that retain the atmosphere of Edo period (1603-1868).
