Corte
The historic city of Corte was the capital of the Republic of Corsica from 1755 to 1769. It is located in the middle of Corsica, in a steep mountainous area, with the Genoese citadel on top of the mountain as the symbol of the city. It is also known as the only university town in Corsica, as the University of Corsica, which existed during the short republic, was re-established in 1981.
Corsica
The island of Corsica is famous for its resorts, but it is also characterized by its varied topography, including steep mountains and cliffy coasts. One of the highlights of the island is the towns that are integrated with the terrain. The fortresses that were built during the Genoese rule in the Middle Ages to guard against enemy invasion are now impressive symbols that welcome tourists.
