Beached Whalers in Hvalfjörður
Hvalfjörður is a fjord lying on the border between the Capital Region and Western Region. As its name suggests, “Whale Fjord”, it has long served as Iceland's only whaling base. Along its shores, two old whaling ships sit quietly, creating a scene reminiscent of a movie, with their decaying aesthetics complemented by the surrounding nature.
Borgarfjörður Area
Borgarfjörður, a fjord located about 70km north of Reykjavik, takes its name from Borg, a settlement founded by the Norwegian settler Skalla-Grímr in the 10th century. This area, rich in history, is also a treasure trove of stunning natural beauty. It boasts some of Iceland's most famous spots, including the country's second-highest waterfall, the hot spring with the highest flow rate, and the longest lava cave.
